About Amir Dastmardi

Amir Dastmardi a multifaceted fine art artist, with a design and illustrative foundation, specializing in painting, new media art and design. He is widely known for his pop art painting and digital product design. Studying and experimentalism in different artistic fields and different styles is one of his characteristics. And this can be seen in his resume and works. He began to learn painting from the age of 10. And from the age of 14, he learned realistic painting academically and fundamentally. And at the age of 17, he entered the world of art by participating in the first group exhibition. Then he went to Yazd to study painting. He says: “Learning modern art in university and living in traditional Yazd on the one hand, and the differences between traditional culture and life in semi-modern Tehran, was the starting point for understanding the complexities of multi-layered Iranian identity. “After completing his bachelor’s degree in painting, he returned to Tehran to work and study for his master’s degree in painting and set up his art studio in Tehran. When he returned to Tehran, his colorful, poetic and mythological works took on an expressionistic color, the silence and colorful forms of his previous works gave way to a harsh and gray atmosphere. The series of portraits “Waiting for Darkness” was done at this time. His artistic experiences were not limited to painting, and all this time he was working in the field of design and graphics, designing brand and visual identity for various businesses.

Amir Dastmardi continued to study public culture and urban life, and the “Fantasy” collection in “Vali Gallery” in Tehran was created from these searches. The collection that made him better known and opened his feet as a professional artist in the Iranian contemporary art scene, and collectors and galleries welcomed this collection. He also created works in conceptual art and video and was selected for one of the new art exhibitions in Tehran. He further established his position as an artist with a style in the visual art space of Iran with “Too much of a Good Thing Collection” in “Etemad Gallery” in Tehran and made him known to collectors and galleries outside of Iran.

In order to gain more experience in 2013, he went to Turkey and moved his art studio from Tehran to Istanbul. He learned academic Turkish language well in university and passed with high marks. Then he applied for a PhD in Istanbul University, according to his artistic resume, his application was accepted for a full scholarship for a PhD in Art History (Contemporary Art). Along with his doctoral studies, in Istanbul, in addition to creating paintings, he got to know more about the design and design of knowledge-based products and artificial intelligence. And he studied and gained experience in the field of user experience and user interface design. Then he won a full scholarship from Google for professional user experience design. With his artistic background, his works were highly regarded. He continued to work with reputable companies and startups in the field of product design and UX/UI. During this time, he was teaching at the university along with his doctoral research.

In 2022, he received his PhD degree in art history with a subject on contemporary Iranian art from Istanbul University with excellent marks. His book on contemporary Iranian art in Turkey is being prepared for publication. Now, he is busy producing works of painting and new art in his studio and working with prestigious art galleries, as well as researching and teaching at the art university. Also, as an art director and senior product designer, also helps to solve the design problems of many businesses and startups as a design consultant, collaborates with various knowledge-based companies and startups in Spain, Italy, Iran and Turkey.
